JFK International Airport's Terminal 4 is a central gateway servicing millions of global travelers.
Pratt Institute is a premier New York City design institution recognized for producing forward-thinking creative talent and architectural installations. -
Contactless Passenger Experience Elevation
The objective was elevating the passenger experience during the height of the pandemic while simultaneously alleviating tensions around health safety and minimizing physical contact.
-
Compromised Travel Environment
Widespread traveler anxiety and strict pandemic health protocols required an entirely contactless approach to terminal engagement to ensure passenger safety.
Severe Operational Constraints
The experience had to be successfully designed and deployed under an extremely limited operational budget and restricted capabilities due to COVID-19.
Additionally, the strategy required converting highly diverse small business owner segments with varying financial needs within federally regulated messaging. -
Immersive Virtual Reality Activation
I designed and deployed an innovative VR experience designed to inspire and remind transient passengers of the hidden and monumental places of New York City.
Academic Design Partnership
A strategic partnership was established with Pratt Institute's Christian Rietzke and Jourdan Ferguson to develop a safe, digital activation that successfully drove a profound “sense of place” for New York natives and visitors. -
Multi-Borough Cultural Integration
The activation successfully connected travelers to five iconic NYC locations: the Queens Unisphere, Staten Island Ferry, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Prospect Park Boathouse, and 191st Street Subway Station.
Safe, Low-Budget Innovation
The digital solution bypassed strict pandemic budget limitations by delivering a highly scalable, touchless entertainment asset that safely alleviated passenger health anxieties.

Concept Ideation & Partnership Leadership
I conceived the concept for the VR initiative and spearheaded the strategic partnership and its roadmap between terminal management and Pratt Institute's design team.
